HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-Hampden-Sydney will remain at home and host the Bears of the United States Coast Guard Academy after defeating Christopher Newport 35-30 in its 2014 home opener. The Tigers have met Coast Guard just twice before, with both meetings taking place in New London, Connecticut.
These two teams met last season, with Hampden-Sydney taking a 49-7 win behind four touchdowns from Brady Macko (Kill Devil Hills, NC/First Flight). This season, the Bears enter the game fresh off of a big 42-31 win over rival Merchant Marine Academy. Tight end Jordan Groff had a big game with touchdown catches of 50 and 47 yards, finishing the day with six catches for 136 yards.
While the Tigers play their second consecutive home game Saturday, they cannot get used to the friendly confines of Everett Stadium as they play just one more home game - Emory & Henry on October 18 - until hosting Guilford on November 8. After a week of rest, the Tigers jump right into the ODAC schedule, with four of their first five games on the road, including back-to-back road games against Catholic and Washington & Lee.
