HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-After falling in a week one Top-25 bout, the 24th ranked football Tigers return home and look to win their seventh consecutive home opener as they host the Captains of Christopher Newport University.
Saturday will mark the third meeting between these two teams with each defending its home field. The last time Christopher Newport came to Everett Stadium, the Tigers claimed a convincing 42-20 victory while quarterback Nash Nance (Calhoun, GA/Tennessee) was named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 339 yards and five touchdowns on 25-of-31 accuracy.
Both teams opened their 2014 seasons last week, the 120th for Hampden-Sydney and the 14th for Christopher Newport. Each fell in games with formidable opponents; the Tigers took a 34-21 road loss at #16 Wabash, and the Captains were downed 41-32 at home by Salisbury.
Saturday's game marks the first of two straight home games for the Tigers before heading into their bye week. After the Tigers host Christopher Newport and Coast Guard, they get a week of rest, then it is all ODAC from that point on, starting with two road games against Catholic and Washington & Lee.
