ASHLAND, Va. -- Senior captain Tyler Blevins/Draper had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs, as Hampden-Sydney College battled to a 7-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball tie on the road at No. 13 Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday in Ashland.  The visiting Tigers (13-12-2, 7-6-1 ODAC) scored a run in the top of the ninth inning against the host and nationally-ranked Yellow Jackets (14-6-1, 10-3-1 ODAC), with the contest ending due to darkness through nine innings.

H-SC had seven runs on 10 hits … scoring two runs in the first inning, two runs in the second, one in the sixth, one in the seventh and one in the ninth.  The Tigers led 4-0 after two innings and maintained the four-run advantage until the bottom of the fifth inning when R-MC scored six runs to lead 6-4.  The Yellow Jackets maintained their advantage and led 7-6 into the ninth before the visitors scored an unearned run with two outs to provide for the forced deadlock.

In the first, junior Andrew Kasiski/Chesapeake (0-2, RBI) drew a one-out, base-loaded walk to score Blevins (3-5, 3 RBIs), who had singled, while classmate Jacob Bartlett/Chesterfield (2-5, RBI) added a two-out RBI single to plate junior Chase Counts/Virginia Beach (0-4), who had also walked.

In the second, Blevins blasted a two-run home run to right field with one out, scoring junior Josh Duimstra/Glen Allen (2-6), who had singled.  It was Blevins' third homer this season, tying him with Counts for the team lead.

In the sixth, senior Blake Hartman/Chester (1-4) reached on a two-out double and crossed the plate on a run-scoring single by Blevins.

In the seventh, junior captain Matthew Spagnolo/Glen Allen (2-4) singled to open the frame and later scored via a sacrifice bunt for an RBI by sophomore Ryan Clawson/Moseley (0-3, RBI).

In the ninth, H-SC took advantage of three errors, a hit batter and a walk to score the game-tying run with two outs. Kasiski, who reached base when hit by the pitch, scored the run when Hartman was safe at first courtesy of an error at first base.

Junior Jonathan Triesler/Chesterfield started and pitched the first 4.1 innings, yielding six hits and five runs, all earned, with four strikeouts and three walks.  Senior Trey Celata/Chesapeake tossed two-thirds of an inning, allowing one hit and one run, earned, with one strikeout and no walks.  Junior Cameron Meyers/Benson, N.C. tossed 2.1 innings, allowing three hits and one run, earned, with one strikeout and one walk.  Sophomore Bradford Webb/Charlotte Court House tossed two-thirds of a scoreless inning, yielding no hits with one strikeout and one walk.  Junior Chase Mayberry/Appomattox pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing no hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

H-SC will return home to welcome non-conference opponent and nationally-ranked No. 2 Christopher Newport University on Wednesday, April 10, at 4 p.m. at Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium.
