HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-The Hampden-Sydney Tigers improved to 3-0 on the young season while sweeping Penn State Harrisburg in their home opener. The Tigers came from behind to win the first game 3-2 before exploding to the tune of 16 runs in a 16-1 win.

The Tigers took game one in come-from-behind fashion, scoring three runs after trailing 2-0 in the third inning.

The first run for the Tigers came in the bottom of the third, with Shane Arceo (Newport News, VA/Denbigh) crossing the plate on a Moe Gothe (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) RBI-single.

After two and a half scoreless innings, Gothe and the Tigers tied the game, scoring on a Tyler Blevins (Draper, VA/Pulaski) RBI-single.

The Tigers were able to avoid extra innings, using a Gothe RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh to score Jayson Maitland (Colonial Heights, VA/Colonial Heights) and take the victory.

The Tigers had nine hits in the game, including two from each Gothe and Blevins.

Jimmy Butler (Roanoke, VA/Patrick Henry) threw a strong six innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven. Trey Celata (Chesapeake, VA/Atlantic Shores Christian) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless seventh.

Hampden-Sydney's offense then exploded in the second game, using a ten-run second inning to win 16-1.

Blevins and Peevey both batted in runs in the bottom of the first to give the Tigers the quick lead.

In the second, the offense tallied ten runs on eight hits while seeing 15 batters come to the plate. The inning was highlighted with Arceo, Brian Goodwyn (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale), Maitland, and Joey Sutphin (Radford, VA/Radford HS) each collecting two RBI. Additionally, Maitland and Chase Counts (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) each scored twice in the innings.
