Wrestling Competes in NCAA Regional Tournament

ROCKY MOUNT, VA-The Hampden-Sydney wrestling team competed in the Southeast Regional Tournament over the weekend with five grapplers seeing action.

Sophomore Caleb Corbett (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory) and freshman Austin Carlson (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) each earning one victory, with Corbett at the 157-pound weight class and Carlson at the 197-pound class.

Corbett started the bracket with a win over Zachary Davidson of Southern Virginia before falling to eventual champion Kevin Edwards of Messiah. He then fell to Anthony Synder of Delaware Valley.

Carlson also started his day with a win, advancing after a win over Anthony Puca of Gettysburg. He then fell to Alic Hasan of York and Carlos Ortega of Greensboro.

Norjon Hedman (Virginia Beach, VA/First Colonial) went 0-2 in the 174-pound weight class, and Jacob Justus (Damascus, VA/Holston) and Thomas Alvardo (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) each went 0-2 in the 149-pound weight class.
