Wrestling Competes in Southeast Wrestling Conference Tournament

GREENSBORO, NC-The Hampden-Sydney wrestling team had three members compete in the Southeast Wrestling Conference Tournament at Greensboro College. The trio were paced by sophomore Caleb Corbett (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory), who finished third in the 157-pound weight class.

Ferrum won the team event.

Corbett defeated Jared Mercer of Huntingdon 7-6 in his first match before falling 6-5 to a Southern Virginia wrestler.

In the consolation bracket, he got a win over Ferrum before defeating Mercer for the second time – a 3-2 decision – to place third.

Freshman Austin Carlson (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) competed in the 197-pound weight class, falling 4-2 to Andrew Cannon of the University of the Ozarks.

Freshman Jacob Justus (Damascus, VA/Holston) represented the Tigers in the 285-pound weight class, falling to wrestlers from Ferrum and Averett.
