FERRUM, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College swept the three doubles matches, and won five of six singles match-ups, for an 8-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's tennis road win at Ferrum College on Thursday in Ferrum. The visiting Tigers improved to 1-2 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC, while the host Panthers dropped to 1-2 overall, 1-2 in the ODAC.
In doubles, junior Matthew Moody/Raleigh, N.C. and sophomore William Driskill/Middleburg won at No. 1, 8-1. Juniors Michael Moody/Raleigh, N.C. and Grayson Burns/Waynesboro won at No. 2, 8-1. Sophomore Andrew Donelson/McLean and freshman Tyler Brice/Rocky Mount, N.C. won at No. 3, 8-0.
In singles, Matthew Moody won at No. 1 by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Driskill won at No. 2 by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Burns won at No. 3 by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Brice won at No. 4 by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Alex Zorko/Heusenstamm, Germany won at No. 5 by scores of 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Zander Theoharis/Vero Beach, Fla. fell at No. 6 by scores of 4-6, 3-6.
H-SC is scheduled to play two non-conference contests against NCAA Division II opponents next Wednesday, March 6, beginning at 9 a.m. at Virginia State University in Petersburg. The Tigers will play the host Trojans along with Belmont Abbey (N.C.) College.
