VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Sophomore Andrew Donelson/McLean earned a win at No. 6 singles, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped a 6-1 non-conference tennis decision to NCAA Division I Norfolk State University on Saturday night at Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach. Donelson won by scores of 6-1, 6-4 for the Tigers (0-2).
Norfolk State earned the point in doubles with wins in all three matches. Juniors Matthew Moody/Raleigh, N.C. and Michael Moody/Raleigh, N.C. fell at No. 1, 6-8. Junior Grayson Burns/Waynesboro and sophomore William Driskill/Middleburg fell at No. 2, 7-9. Donelson and freshman Tyler Brice/Rocky Mount, N.C. fell at No. 3, 3-8.
In singles, Matthew Moody fell at No. 1 by scores of 3-6, 2-6. Michael Moody fell at No. 2 by scores of 2-6, 0-6. Burns fell at No. 3 by scores of 0-6, 0-6. Driskill fell at No. 4 by scores of 4-6, 1-6. Brice fell at No. 5 by scores of 0-6, 1-6.
H-SC is idle until opening Old Dominion Athletic Conference competition on the road at Ferrum College on Thursday, February 28, at 3 p.m. in Ferrum. The Tigers are scheduled to host an Alumni event on Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Westwood Country Club in Richmond.
