Roanoke Takes Tough 6-3 Win Over H-SC Tennis

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - The Roanoke College Maroons earned a tough 6-3 road win against Hampden-Sydney College Tennis on Wednesday.

Matthew Kessler and James Lee took down Watt Mountcastle (Richmond, VA / Freeman) and David Dodson (Roanoke, VA / Cave Spring) 8-0 in #1 doubles. Zach King (Henrico, VA / Mills Godwin) and Lawrence Bowers (New Bern, NC / Arendell Parrott Academy) led 4-0 at #2 doubles, but Chris Migliarese and Jake Morris reeled out eight straight games to earn the 8-4 win. Houghton Flanagan (Charlotte, NC / Myers Park) and Houston Wilson (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Collegiate) emerged victorious by an 8-2 score at the #3 doubles flight.

Kessler took the first set at #1 singles in impressive fashion at 6-1, but King clawed back in to the match with a 7-6 (7-5) win in the second set to force a tiebreaker. King went up 3-0 in the third set, but Kessler took the next six games to win the third set 6-3.

Mountcastle breezed to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at #3 singles while Bowers came out on top 6-4, 6-4 at #4. Lee won over Dodson 6-3, 6-2 at #2, Webster won 6-4, 6-3 over Flanagan at the #5 spot, and Morris trumped Wilson 6-4, 6-2 at #6 singles.

The Tigers travel to Washington & Lee University on Saturday for a 1 pm match.
