Tennis Picks Up 8-1 Win Over Randolph

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Hampden-Sydney Tennis picked up an 8-1 win over visiting Randolph College on Tuesday afternoon.

Watt Mountcastle (Richmond, VA / Freeman) and David Dodson (Roanoke, VA / Cave Spring) took a hard fought 8-6 decision at #1 doubles. Zach King (Henrico, VA / Mills Godwin) and Lawrence Bowers (New Bern, NC / Arendell Parrott Academy) teamed at the #2 flight for an easy 8-1 win while The Fox brothers - Zach (Lexington, VA / Parry McCluer) and Tanner (Lexington, VA / Parry McCluer) - rolled to a shutout 8-0 win at the #3 spot.

The Tigers lone loss came at #1 singles. Daniil Lyalko took the first set in impressive fashion at 6-0. He started out strong in the second set as well, but King rallied back to win it 5-7 to force a third-set tiebreaker where Lyalko emerged victorious 10-5. 

Dodson proved to be on point at the #2 flight, taking his match 6-0, 6-0. Bowers won 6-3, 6-1 at the #3 spot, and Houghton Flanagan (Charlotte, NC / Myers Park) earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at #4. Houston Wilson (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Collegiate) was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at the #5 flight, and Tanner Fox finished off singles play with a 6-0, 6-3 win at #6.

Hampden-Sydne returns to the courts on Wednesday with a 3:30 pm tilt against Roanoke College.
