Zach King Excels at Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational
HAMPTON ROADS, VA - Zach King (Henrico, VA / Mills Godwin) advanced to the Semi-Finals of the "B" Singles West Champion bracket this weekend at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational. The field was filled with mostly NCAA Division I and Division II teams.
King lost his first match 2-6, 2-6 to an athlete from DI Drexel but rebounded to take down a player from D2 Chowan 8-5. In the semi-finals, he squared off against Greg Olesnycky from D1 Loyola but fell 4-8.
Lawrence Bowers and David Dodson both dropped their first round "B" singles matches to Drexel opponents. Each also fell 2-8 in the second round with Bowers losing to Steven Columban from Shepherd and Dodson to Olesnycky.
Houhgton Flanagan (Charlotte, NC / Myers Park) defeated his Chowan opponent in the first round of "C" singles by a score of 6-3, 6-0, but lost to Alex Castro of Loyola 3-6, 0-6. Alex Turkovic defeated Nico Sorrell of D1 Howard 6-1, 6-0 but lost a 1-6, 3-6 decision to Tyler Searcy from Virginia Wesleyan.
Houston Wilson defeated Griffin Graves of Virginia Wesleyan 6-4 6-4 in "C" singles then proceeded to lose 0-6, 0-6 to eventual "C" champion Keishi Goto from Loyola. Zach Fox opened with a 1-6, 1-6 loss to a Loyola player and then fell 0-8 to Juhan Washington from Virginia Wesleyan. Tanner Fox lost 0-6, 0-6 to Goto then fell 0-8 to Griffin Graves of Virginia Wesleyan.
The Tigers have concluded competition for their fall season and will open their spring season play on February 23 when they travel to Fredericksburg, VA, to play Salisbury University at 6 pm on the campus of Mary Washington University.
