Pugh was seeded ninth and started off the round of 64 by defeating Garrett Mertl 6-4, 7-6(5) to advance to the round of 32. In the next round, Pugh faced the #6 seed Gianandrea Heyer and lost the exciting and closely contested first set 7-5 but could not stage another comeback and lost the second set 6-2. The third set was an epic set as Covington and Lee would not back down, fighting back and forth. Covington ended up winning 15-13 in what proved to be the longest set of the tournament. With a consolation finals match in hand, Covington took down his opponent, Brad DeWitt to win the consolation championship.
