Hampden-Sydney picked up a crucial three points in the ODAC standings with a 2-1 win at Ferrum College on Friday night.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Hampden-Sydney 2, Ferrum 1
  • Records: Hampden-Sydney 6-7-2, 4-4-2 ODAC; Ferrum 10-5, 5-4 ODAC
  • Location: Ferrum, VA – Penn-Roediger Field

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ferrum struck first in the 11th minute as Michael Lyons converted a Hampus Espeland pass
  • Ferrum registered a couple shots on goal shortly after only to see them turned back by Tiger goalkeeper Gray Sutter
  • Less than four minutes later, Ferrum's Jose Bonifasi fouled a Tiger in the box to give the Tigers a penalty kick attempt, which Hunter Weiland converted to go to 3-for-3 on the season on PKs
  • H-SC didn't record another shot on goal for the rest of the half but Sutter turned back several Panther attempts to keep it a 1-1 game at the half
  • The Panthers came out firing away to open the second half, but it was H-SC who took advantage of their opportunities.
  • After a Nolan Poretz shot was blocked, Spell Carr collected the rebound and redirected it into the right side of the goal at 60:01 to put H-SC ahead 2-1
  • The Tigers didn't attempt another shot the rest of the game but held the Panthers to zero shots on goal over the last 15 minutes of the contest
  • Weiland tackled and took the ball away from a Ferrum player about to shoot from inside the box with less than 30 seconds to play and managed to dribble the ball up the field to run out the clock and preserve the win

COACH DINUZZO'S COMMENTS

  • "Very important three points for us tonight against a tough Ferrum team. The guys showed a ton of resilience and gave everything they had. That's exactly the type of effort we need against Guilford next week."
