Hampden-Sydney Soccer won their second game in a row with a 4-1 victory over Averett University on Wednesday afternoon.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Cody Brugos headed in a crossing pass from Spell Carr at 17:42
  • Less than two minutes before halftime, H-Sc made it a 2-0 game when a Paul Mahaffy pass found Jacob Siler who redirected it in on a chip shot over the goalkeeper's head
  • Averett needed just 50 seconds into the second half to get on the scoreboard as a Hampden-Sydney foul in the box resulted in a Sean Dunbar penalty kick score
  • Three minutes later, Carr took a Sean McMurray pass inside the corner of the box and sent it into the inside far post to push the advantage back to two, 3-1, at 48:49
  • Hunter Weiland ended the scoring on the afternoon off a Carr pass at 61:13, giving Weiland five goals for the season, tying his career-high for single-season goals

COACH DINUZZO'S COMMENTS

  • "Excellent performance by the entire team. Our work rate was consistently high, and because of that, we had lots of options in the final third. It was very positive all around. Hopefully, we can build on this going forward into conference play."
