Randolph-Macon Upends Soccer 2-1

Randolph-Macon held off a second-half charge from Hampden-Sydney Soccer to win 2-1 on Wednesday night.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • H-SC was the aggressor in the first few minutes, having several scoring opportunities but unable to finish
  • After the flurry from the Tigers, the Yellow Jackets settled in and took control of the half
  • Randolph-Macon went ahead 1-0 in the 18th minute on a Paul Duffy score
  • R-MC got several more shots in the half but were kept at bay by the Tiger defense
  • Halftime proved to be critical for the Tigers as they came out of the gates attacking
  • H-SC found two of their shots from within the box saved just inches from the goal line by Yellow Jacket defenders
  • In the 54th minute, Bryan Lutz scored off an Andrew Griggs corner kick to put the visitors up 2-0
  • Hampden-Sydney drew within one at 67:19 when JP Reategui put the ball in the back of the net, just the sixth goal surrendered by Randolph-Macon this year

  • H-SC was outshot 12-4 in the first half but turned the tables and held a 10-3 shot advantage in the second half
  • Randolph-Macon drew nine corner kicks to five for Hampden-Sydney

  • Hampden-Sydney hosts Shenandoah for a Pink Game on Saturday at 4 pm at Miller Field. The Tigers will be collecting donations throughout the game to support Breast Cancer research and awareness
