Tigers Open ODAC Play With 2-1 Win at Bridgewater

Hampden-Sydney Soccer started out ODAC play on a high note with a 2-1 win at Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon. 

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hampden-Sydney was an aggressor from the opening whistle, drawing two corner kicks with the first two minutes
  • The Tigers capitalized on the second corner as Hunter Weiland's attempt was headed in by Eli Strong
  • Both teams got a few promising opportunities the rest of the have but strong goalkeeping and timely defensive plays kept each team at bay
  • Weiland struck quick again in the second half, taking a pass from Sean McMurray and creating space around two defenders for a strike into the back of the net
  • Bridgewater drew within a goal at 65:41 when Tim Bedell finished off a Leo Alcantara feed
  • Gray Sutter made a few impressive saves the rest of the way to fend off the Eagles for the win

COACH DINUZZO'S COMMENTS

  • "Today was a very typical ODAC game. It was hard fought the entire time by both teams. As we've already proven this season, we are a very deep team, and each of our guys is ready whenever they get their chance on the field."
