H-SC SOCCER RELEASES 2009 SCHEDULE

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (March 17, 2009)—Coming off one of the best seasons in Tiger history with 12 wins, Head Coach Josh Laux will once again lead his Tigers through an incredibly difficult 2009 schedule. Hampden-Sydney recently released their 2009 schedule with 19 games. The schedule features 11 home contests, two classics, and four other out of conference match ups. The Tigers have a tough home schedule with reigning ODAC champion Virginia Wesleyan, runner up Roanoke, and arch-rival Randolph-Macon.

Hampden-Sydney will open the season with a two game road stretch as they will travel to Catholic (Aug 25) and Averett (Sept 1). They will then return home to host the annual Arby's/Hampden-Sydney Soccer Classic (Sept 5-6) and Arby's Tiger Invitational (Sept 12-13). The Tigers will then hit the road to face the defending conference champion Marlins at Virginia Wesleyan on September 16. The match will be one of three road night games for the Tigers (VWC, Randolph, and Eastern Mennonite) this season.

While the Tigers are losing key parts from 2008, they return the bulk of the team including first team All-ODAC performers Will Robertson (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Catholic) and Matt Swaney (Potomac Falls, VA/Potomac Falls), and leading scorer Bryan Wharton (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run). The 2009 squad will also see the return of the entire defense and 2007 ODAC Rookie of the Year John Robert Plyler (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) between the pipes.
