Soccer Tigers Crack Top 10 in Southern Region D-III Polls
(October 5, 2005) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA -It seems that good news is abundant and well earned this week for the Tigers soccer team. First, junior Kerry Burke was named ODAC player of the week and now the Tigers have been ranked in the 10 spot according to NCSAA/Adidas polls. The good fortune and recognition comes on the heels of two victories against Randolph-Macon and Emory & Henry colleges. The wins improved the Tigers record to 6-4-1 and 3-2 in the ODAC.
At mid-season, the scoring leaders for Hampden-Sydney College are as follows: Grant Dickens: 3 goals, 3 assists, 9 points / Michael Krewinghaus: 3 goals, 6 points /Bobby Hillmann: 2 goals, 2 assists, 6 points and Robert Harem: 4 assists, 4 points.
The defense has also been strong in helping freshman Ben Marchetti post five shutouts. The Tigers defense is led by Captain Chris Cadogan, junior Kerry Burke and junior Will Robbins. Also seeing significant playing time and making an impact are freshmen Robert Baybutt, Tony Pitts and Stafford Craymer.
The Tigers midfield has been sound as well with the play from captains Greg Smith and Rob Johnson.
Hampden-Sydney College continues their season with play this afternoon against non-conference opponent Southern Virginia. Game time starts at 4:00 pm.
