Huge First Half Carries Lacrosse to 20-11 Win Over Virginia Wesleyan

Hampden-Sydney filled up the net with seven goals in the first quarter and 12 for the half to defeat Virginia Wesleyan 20-11 on a chilly Wednesday night.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • H-SC led 2-1 at 9:07 following goals from Ian Levin and John Burke for the Tigers and Joe Couture for the Marlins
  • Hampden-Sydney reeled off the next three, two courtesy of Hunter Brown, and five of the last six in the quarter to lead 7-2 after 15 minutes of play
  • The Tigers kept rolling on both ends of the field in the second quarter, outscoring the Marlins 5-1 in the frame and H-SC would force 18 turnovers in the first half
  • With the Tigers substituting liberally throughout the second half, the H-SC reserves held even with the Marlins starters as each team scored eight goals after intermission and VWU was never able to get closer than eight goals.
