The Generals got the better of the Tigers in the regular season matchup 12-9 on March 11. Hampden-Sydney led 6-5 at halftime, but the Generals pulled ahead for a 9-8 advantage after three quarters. W&L scored the first three goals of the fourth to pull away and held the Tigers off the scoreboard in the final frame until just 40 seconds left.
H-SC held A.J. Witherell, one of the favorites for ODAC Player of the Year, to zero goals, the only team to hold him without a goal this season. Chandler Shaheen led H-SC with four goals and an assist while Connor Pool had three scores and an assist. Hunter Brown added three assists and found the back of the net once, and Mitch Renfrow recorded 13 saves.
Hudson Hamill scored four times for W&L, and Sam Dardani notched a hat trick. While Witherell was held without a goal, he did manage four assists, and Joe Perrella scored twice. Jack Hodgson won 16 of 21 faceoffs while Philip Rech contributed 11 saves.
While the statistics indicated two evenly contested teams, Washington and Lee's ability to win faceoffs (won 17 of 23) and more efficient shooting (25 shots on goal to 20 for H-SC) proved to be difference makers.
