Lacrosse Defeats Berry 14-11 in Charlotte

Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse used a seven-goal third quarter to turn back the Berry College Vikings in Charlotte, NC.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • H-SC led 3-1 after 10 minutes behind goals from Ian Levin, Chandler Shaheen, and John Burke, but Justin Westbrook make it a one-score game, 3-2, going into the second quarter
  • Berry took the lead, 4-3, with quick back-to-back scores at 11:48 and 11:20, forcing a Tigers timeout
  • The timeout proved beneficial as H-SC reeled off four straight scores to go up 7-4. McKinley Gannon drew the Vikings within two at 2:42
  • H-SC came out of halftime blazing, scoring five goals within the first 5:27. Hunter Brown got the first score at 14:11 then Levin scored just six seconds apart at 12:14 and 12:08 to double up Berry at 10-5.
  • Connor Pool pushed the lead to six at 10:22 before Hudson Harris answered 13 seconds later. H-SC went on to score three of the five remaining goals in the quarter to lead 14-8 going into the final frame
  • Berry looked like they were going to make it interesting in the fourth quarter as they notched a man-up tally at 14:36 and then another score at 14:01 to trim their deficit to just four
  • The Tiger defense locked down from there, holding the Vikings scoreless until a Jason Wilhelm goal at the 1:40 mark.

  • Quentin Johnson scored two goals on 15 shots with an assist
  • Justin Westbrook added two goals on 10 shots
