HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The Hampden-Sydney College golf team remains ranked 14th in the latest Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll and the Golfstat Division III Top 25, while the Tigers also remain ranked sixth in the NCAA Division III Southeast Region rankings, used to determine which teams qualify for the 2019 Division III Men's Golf Championships on May 14-17 at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
H-SC has four golfers ranked highly among the Golfstat national and regional individual rankings, including freshman John Hatcher Ferguson/Rocky Mount, who is 44th in DIII and 18th in the region with his 73.45 scoring average, and junior Bruce Shober/Appomattox (73.40), who is ranked 46th in Division III and 23rd in the region.
The other two nationally-ranked Tigers are junior Adam Hade/Richmond (74.35), who is 92nd in DIII and 42nd in the region, and sophomore Allen Smith/Durham, N.C. (74.60), who is 111th in DIII and 44th in the region.
H-SC, coached by Director of Athletics Chad Eisele, has earned seven Top 10 team finishes in eight tournaments this year. The Tigers are averaging 294.10 per round, 11th-best in Division III and fifth-best in the region. Shober's 73.40 average is 49th-best in DIII and 23rd-best in the region. Ferguson's 73.45 average is 26th-best in the region.
The eight teams ranked in the NCAA Southeast Region are also among the top 18 nationally-ranked programs in the Golfweek Coaches Poll. They include top-ranked Emory (Ga.), No. 2 Huntingdon (Ala.), No. 5 Methodist (N.C.), No. 6 Guilford, No. 10 Washington and Lee, No. 14 H-SC, No. 15 North Carolina Wesleyan and No. 18 Greensboro (N.C.).
H-SC will compete in the 54-hole ODAC Championships on April 28-30 at the Bryan Park - Champions Course in Browns Summit, North Carolina.
