HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney College golf team is nationally-ranked in numerous team and individual statistical categories through its impressive fall season. The Tigers are ranked 20th in the Golf Coaches Association of America (CGAA) NCAA Division III Top 25 and 21st in the Golfstat DIII Top 25, while ranked among the top 25 in several Division III team rankings. Individually, junior Bruce Shober/Appomattox leads three H-SC golfers with lofty national rankings, including his leading DIII in par 3 scoring (2.90) that also ranks 14th nationally among 6,314 collegiate golfers from all divisions.
Hampden-Sydney ranks fifth nationally in Division III team pars per round (11.31), ninth in fewest bogeys (3.44), 10th in par 3 average (3.19), 15th in scoring average (74.40) and first round average (74.45), 18th in score compared to par (2.96), 22nd in final round average (74.55) and 23rd in par 4 average (4.22).
Shober, who averaged a team-best 72.00 through nine rounds this fall, ranks 24th nationally in Division III scoring average … 445th out of 6,482 overall among all divisions. He ranks 10th in DIII pars per round (12.44, 52nd of 6,286 among all divisions), 11th in fewest bogeys per round (2.44, 149th of 6,286), T-12th in final round scoring (70.50, 172nd of 7,462), T-17th in eagles (2, 193rd of 2,304) and T-28th in score compared to par (0.56, 482nd of 6,482).
Freshman John Hatcher Ferguson/Rocky Mount, second on the team with his scoring average of 72.78, is T-26th nationally in Division III first round scoring (72.00, 479th of 7,521) and T-40th in fewest bogeys (2.89, 457th of 6,286).
Junior Adam Hade/Richmond, fourth on the team with his scoring average of 75.00, is T-29th nationally in Division III pars per round (12.00, 163rd of 6,286).
Hampden-Sydney, coached by Director of Athletics Chad Eisele, earned four Top 10 team finishes in four fall tournaments, including a team title at the Tom Kinder Memorial Tournament (288-289--577) to open the season September 24-25 at the Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg. The Tigers finished 10th among a select 18 teams at the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational (293-292-298--883) October 14-16 at the Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, Florida.
Hampden-Sydney will open the spring portion of its schedule on March 4-5 at the Callaway Gardens Invitational being played at the Mountain View Golf Course in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
