PINE MOUNTAIN, GA-The Hampden-Sydney golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring season, tying for 11th in the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate, played at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. The tournament was cut short to one day as the second day was cancelled due to the rain.
The Tigers shot 16-over par over, tying with Maryville and Christopher Newport, while Oglethorpe won the event at three under par.
Bruce Shober (Appomattox, VA/Appomattox) paced the Tigers, tying for 16th while shooting a 73 to finish one over par. Allen Smith (Durham, NC/Durham Academy) was just two strokes behind with a 75 (+3).
Parker Smith (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) and John David Gooden (Myrtle Beach, SC/Myrtle Beach) each shot a 78 (+6) to tie for 63rd, and Austin Fockler (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's) rounded out the group, tying for 87th with a round of 83 (+11).
The Tigers will return to action Friday, March 16 as they compete in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
