FLOWERY BRANCH, GA-The Hampden-Sydney golf team competed in the competitive Oglethorpe Invitational at Royal Lakes over the weekend, finishing 15th in the 18-team field. Greensboro won the event shooting seven-over par, and Emory (+7) and Carnegie Mellon (+9) rounded out the top three.
Freshman Allen Smith (Durham, NC/Durham Academy) paced the team while placing 23rd after shooting two strong rounds of 74 and 73 to finish two over par. Seniors Austin Fockler (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's) and Parker Smith (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) each tied for 50th at eight-over par. Fockler shot rounds of 75 and 77 while Smith shot 74 and 78.
Freshman Dylan Taylor (Richmond, VA/Benedictine) was two strokes behind Fockler and Smith, shooting two rounds of 77 to tie for 61st.
Sophomore Adam Hade (Richmond, VA/Deep Run) rounded out the group tying for 89th, shooting 88 and 75 to finish 19-over par.
The Tigers will return to action Monday, October 23 as they compete in the O'Briant-Jensen Tournament in Greensboro, NC.
