SALEM, VA-The Hampden-Sydney golf team won the Roanoke College Invitational on Thursday while freshman Bruce Shober (Appomattox, VA/Appomattox) took home medalist honors. As a team the Tigers shot 25 over par, while Bridgewater came in second place at 44 over.
Shober won the event with a three over par showing, shooting rounds of 72 and 73.
Sophomore Jamie Agnew (Fairfax, VA/Flint Hill School) was just two strokes behind Shober, shooting five over par (73-74-147) and finishing second overall.
Junior Parker Smith (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) was the third Tiger to finish in the top five, finishing fourth at eight over par (77-73-150).
Senior Alex Simmons (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) tied for tenth, while his rounds of 75 and 78 put him 11 over par.
Just three strokes behind Simmons at 14 over par was John David Gooden (Myrtle Beach, SC/Myrtle Beach). Gooden placed 15 overall, with rounds of 80 and 76.
The Tigers wrap up their season in the ODAC Championship at Wintergreen. The event will be held from April 23-25.
