#12 Golf Ties for 13th in Jekyll Island Invitational


JEKYLL ISLAND, GA-The 12th ranked Hampden-Sydney Tigers tied for 13th place in the very competitive Jekyll Island Invitational this past weekend. The three-round tournament featured seven of the nation's top-ten teams in the country and an overall field for 30.

Illinois Wesleyan won the event with a team score of 870 (+6). Methodist (880, +16) and St. John Fisher (881, +17) rounded out the top three. Hampden-Sydney, with a 905 (+41), was the top ODAC finisher.

Junior Brian Burt (Holt, MI/Eastern Michigan) again paced the Tigers while shooting par and finishing sixth overall. Rick O'Connell (Goochland, VA/Goochland) was just one stroke behind at one over par while tying for ninth place.

George Whiting (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) finished in the top 100, tying for 99th place with a 19-over par finish.

Drew Arnold (Chatham, VA/Chatham) placed 122nd while shooting 24 over par, and Alex Simmons (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) rounded out the group, finishing tied for 136th at 28 over par.

Illinois Wesleyan's Tony Albano shot five under par for his three rounds to take home medalist honors.

The Tigers return to action March 28 as they compete in the Camp LeJeune Invitational in North Carolina.
