WINCHESTER, VA-The Hampden-Sydney golf team won its second tournament this fall with a first place finish in the Virginia State Intercollegiate, hosted by Shenandoah University. The event was supposed to be 36 holes over two days, but due to rain was cut to one round.
Junior Brian Burt (Holt, MI/Eastern Michigan) continued his stellar play, taking home medalist honors after shooting a 68 (-4). The Tigers shot one under par as a team, finishing 11 strokes ahead of Bridgewater and Washington & Lee, who tied for second.
Hampden-Sydney had two other golfers finish in the top-ten with Trey Cully (Studley, VA/Hanover) shooting par and Drew Arnold (Chatham, VA/Chatham) shooting one over par to finish fourth and ninth, respectively.
Junior George Whiting (Charlotte, NC/Myers Park) was just two over par for a 12 place finish. Senior Rick O'Connell (Goochland, VA/Goochland) was not far off, as his six over par placed him tied for 26.
Hampden-Sydney returns to action at the Hanover Country Club to compete in the Ted Keller Memorial on October 20 and 21.
