Tigers Place Second in Hampden-Sydney Invitational


FARMVILLE, VA-Junior Brian Burt shot an even par to pace the Tigers and help them to a second place finish in the Hampden-Sydney Invitational at the Manor in Farmville. Ferrum College shot just seven over par as a team to take the win.

Hampden-Sydney was 35 over par in the two-day event, and Bridgewater rounded out the top three, shooting 47 over par.

Burt finished second individually, shooting a 70 on the first day and 74 in the second round. Junior Drew Arnold shot rounds of 76 and 75 to finish in eighth place at seven over par. Junior Trey Cully tied for 11th after shooting a 76 and 77. Junior George Whiting (85, 78) and freshman Alex Simmons (85, 80) came in 21st and 25th, respectively.

Senior Rick O'Connell played as an individual and was solid, placing third overall with scores of 71 and 76 (+3).

Ferrum's Scott Obenshain took home medalist honors after finishing five under par (69, 70).

Hampden-Sydney returns to action in the VSGA State Collegiate at the Winchester Country Club from October 13-14.
