Hampden-Sydney At No. 7 Randolph-Macon Wednesday Night

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College will travel to nationally-ranked and arch rival Randolph-Macon College for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball road game on Wednesday night, February 6, at 7 p.m. in Ashland.  The Tigers are 4-15 overall, 1-11 in the ODAC, while the No. 7 Yellow Jackets are 20-2 overall, 12-1 in the ODAC.  The contest can be heard locally on WFLO Radio, 95.7 FM.

Tigers at Yellow Jackets
Hampden-Sydney is playing its second of back-to-back ODAC games on the road, following a 74-41 setback at Guilford on Feb. 2 in Greensboro, North Carolina.  Randolph-Macon, No. 7 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25, is playing its second-straight home game after a 71-51 win past Roanoke on Feb. 2.

Scouting Hampden-Sydney
Hampden-Sydney is 4-15 overall, 1-11 in the ODAC, and coached by 11th-year head coach Dee Vick '94, who has led the program to an overall record of 156-135 (tied for second all-time in wins), including 81-91 in the ODAC.  Vick is assisted by Chuck Thomas, T.J. Grimes and Daniel Eacho.

H-SC has dropped a highly uncharacteristic 13 consecutive contests, including eight-straight ODAC games.  The Tigers have been led this season by junior guard Chaise Johnson/Richmond, who is averaging 10.6 points and 2.8 rebounds.  He is followed by junior guard/forward Kevin Quinn/Durham, N.C. (9.2 points, 3.2 rebounds), freshman forward Warren Zager/Nashville, Tenn. (8.5 points, 5.7 rebounds), sophomore center/forward Jake Hahn/Ruckersville (8.0 points, 3.5 rebounds) along with senior forward and team captain Justin Reid/Cary, N.C. (6.6 points, 3.0 rebounds).  H-SC is averaging 66.9 points per game, while allowing 78.6 points to opponents.

Scouting No. 7 Randolph-Macon
Randolph-Macon is 20-2 overall, 12-1 in the ODAC, and the nationally-ranked Yellow Jackets are coached by fourth-year head coach Josh Merkel.  R-MC has won seven-straight games and 10 of its last 11 contests overall, including a 70-64 road win at nationally-ranked Lynchburg on January 26.  The Yellow Jackets have been led by sophomore Buzz Anthony (15.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists), senior Grayson Midulla (12.0 points, 4.8 rebounds) and junior Corey Bays (11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds).  R-MC is averaging 81.5 points, while yielding 63.5 points.

Tigers among ODAC Leaders
Chaise Johnson ranks second in the ODAC in free throw percentage (88.6%, 62-70).  Sophomore guard Brendan McHale/Charleston, S.C. ranks fourth in assists (4.0) and 11th in assist/turnover ratio (1.8).  Freshman guard Cole Atwood/Mount Olive, N.C. ranks ninth in three-point field goal percentage.  Jake Hahn ranks 10th in field goal percentage (51.3%, 60-117).  Warren Zager ranks 19th in defensive rebounds (4.3).  Kevin Quinn ranks 20th in three-point field goals (37).

H-SC will return home to welcome Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium.  The Tigers will remain at home to host the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. for Senior Night at Fleet Gym.
