Despite a career-high 29 points from Malik Crute, Lynchburg College defeated Hampden-Sydney 101-92 on Wednesday night.

  • Lynchburg tallied the first four points of the game, but the Tigers reeled off the next 11 to lead by seven after four minutes of play
  • Hampden-Sydney kept up the pace up through the first 10 minutes, going up 24-14, but the Hornets used a 13-3 run to tie the game at 27-27 with six minutes left in the first half
  • Crute gave the Tigers the lead back on the next possession courtesy of a layup, but Lynchburg scored 13 of the last 20 to go into intermission ahead 40-36
  • The Hornets were on fire to open the second half, outscoring H-SC 22-9 in the first eight minutes to lead 62-45
  • The lead remained at 15, 85-70, with 3:30 to go, but H-SC trimmed it down to eight, 90-82, following a Brendan McHale three pointer at the two-minute mark and then seven, 92-85, at 1:36 following a Crute triple, but the Hornets would close out the game on the free throw line


  • Malik Crute tallied 29 points while going 9-19 overall and 6-12 from three point range. He added six rebounds, two assists, and a block
  • Brendan McHale scored a career-high 15 points along with six assists, two steals, and two blocks
  • Chaise Johnson contributed 11 points and five rebounds
  • Kevin Quinn tacked on nine points and four assists
  • Guilherme Guimaraes provided nine points and five boards


  • Austen Wrighten led seven Hornets in double figured with 18 points and six rebounds
  • Chance Greene totaled 16 points
  • Devante' Young added 14 points and six assists
  • TC Thacker posted 12 points and eight boards


  • Hampden-Sydney shot 47.0% while Lynchburg converted at a 45.5% rate
  • Both teams filled it up beyond the arc with H-SC going 16-31 and LC 13-29
  • Free throws provided Lynchburg a heavy advantage as they went 28-35, benefitting from late fouling, while Hampden-Sydney was 14-20
  • The Tigers had 15 giveaways resulting in 19 Hornet points while H-SC turned nine Hornets turnovers into 13 points
