Hampden-Sydney Basketball recently handed out their annual team awards. Highlighting the pack is team MVP Jake Duncan who was also awarded the College's Gammon Cup and ODK Cohen Citizenship Award at this year's graduation ceremony. Duncan additionally received the team's Three-Point Award, Free Throw Award, and Rebounding Award. Duncan scored a team-high 12.2 points per game and was a Third-Team All-ODAC honoree. He led the team in three point shooting at 38.6%, free throw shooting at 83.1%, and rebounding with 5.1 per contest.
JaVonte Reddick was picked for the Best Defensive Player award as his size, strength, and awareness on the defensive end made him an ideal candidate to defend the opposition's top perimeter player. One of his best defensive performances of the season came in a 76-69 win over Virginia Wesleyan when he played a big role in holding 2016 ODAC Player of the Year Kory Moore to a 6-19 shooting performance.
Nick Chase received the College's H.B. Overcash Award for having the highest GPA in the Biology program. Hunter Kuehn and Justin Reid were named the Co-Most Improved Player. Kuehn played in 27 games while shooting 66.7% from the field. Reid played in 26 games with six starts as he shot 45% overall.
Guilherme Guimaraes won the Tiger Toughness Award, and Logan Samuels picked up the Assist Award. Guimaraes played in 26 games and averaged 7.8 points on 55.6% shooting and 5.0 rebounds. Samuels had a career year, playing in 27 games and 22.6 minutes an outing, averaging 9.3 points on 50.9% shooting with a team-high 31 assists per contest.
