Averett Takes 71-59 Win Over H-SC Basketball

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Averett scored the first 13 points of the game vs. Hampden-Sydney Basketball and came out with a 71-59 win over the Tigers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tigers were cold on the offensive end throughout the first half while Averett started out strong, going ahead 13-0 at 12:24
  • The lead remained around 10-15 points the rest of the half with Averett going into intermission ahead 33-21
  • The Cougars accounted for 18 of the first 25 points in the second to surge ahead 51-28 at the 9:50 mark.
  • Trailing 59-44 with 4:15 remaining, three consecutive three pointers from Andrew Evans (Raleigh, NC / Millbrook) and a Mike Murray (Norfolk, VA / Norfolk Christian) layup made it just a 67-55 game with a minute remaining.
  • Averett went on to close out the game at the free throw line

  • Murray posted a team-high 14 points to go with five rebounds and five assists, shooting 6-10 from the floor
  • Jake Duncan (Williamsburg, VA / Williamsburg Christian) converted three triples en route to 13 points
