HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-On Friday, February 22, second-seeded and 12th-ranked Hampden-Sydney (22-3, 14-2 ODAC) begins its quest for its ODAC-record 11th Championship with a quarterfinal match up against tenth-seeded Roanoke (11-15, 3-13 ODAC). The Tigers, who were tied with the best record in conference with Virginia Wesleyan, reach the quarterfinals after a first round bye, but the Maroons upset seventh-seeded Bridgewater on the road 76-68. The two will tip off in the third game of the day, at 6:00 pm.
The two have only met once this year with the Tigers rolling to a 100-62 victory. Under head coach Dee Vick, the Tigers boast a 6-1 record over the Maroons.
Both programs have storied history with a league-high ten championships for each; the Tigers' last title has come more recently as Hampden-Sydney defeated Roanoke in the 2007 title game 77-62.
The ODAC Tournament has been in the Salem since 1981, and in those 31 years the Tigers hold a 39-16 record in Salem with 12 championship game appearances and ten titles. Against the Maroons in Salem, the Tigers are 9-4 while winning the last six meetings. The last Roanoke win came in 2000 in the championship game.
