Doody Headlines Four Tiger All-Americans
MINNEAPOLIS, MN-The post season accolades continue to come in as four Hampden-Sydney football players have been named to D3football.com All-American teams. Senior free safety Bill Doody (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Cardinal Gibbons) earned First Team honors for the second consecutive year; he became the first two-time First Team All-American in school history. Senior linebacker Trevor Ikwild (Philmont, VA/Loudoun Valley)was named to the Second Team, while senior defensive end Will Riggenbach (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) and junior place kicker David Prizzia (Jacksonville, FL/Episcopal) garnered Third Team honors.
Doody, the first back-to-back First Team All-American in program history, has also been named First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-State and First Team All-Region. He led the ODAC in passes defended with 20. Of those 20, 15 were break ups while he had five interceptions (2nd in the ODAC). His 74 return yards on the five picks were a league high. He was also fourth on the team in tackles with 60 (41 solo, 19 assisted).
Ikwild, the 2010 ODAC Defensive Player of the Year, was also a First Team All-ODAC, All-State and All-Region selection. He posted an ODAC-best 133 tackles, 42 more stops than the next highest mark in the conference. His 12.1 tackles-per-game average currently ranks 12th in the nation. Ikwild also collected 10.0 tackles-for-loss (sixth in the ODAC), and proved adept in pass coverage with 10 passes defended (seventh) including three interceptions (10th). Ikwild registered double-figures in tackles in eight of 11 games played, including a season-high 19 stops (12 solo) in the Tigers' playoff game against Montclair State. The 19 stops were the most of any player in the 16 first round playoff games. Over his four years, the senior tallied 300 tackles.
Riggenbach, the 2009 ODAC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-ODAC, All-State and Second Team All-Region selection, had yet another solid season and was second in the ODAC in sacks, tallying 8.0 on seven solo and two assisted. His 12.5 tackles-for-loss were third in the league. he tallied 43 total tackles - 12.5 of which were for a loss of 54 yards. Of his 39 tackles, 22 were solo stops while 21 were assisted. In addition, he had one interception for a touchdown.
Prizzia, a First Team All-ODAC, All-Region and Second Team All-State selection, was solid all season as the Tigers' place kicker. He finished second on the team and in scoring with 67 points - which was also good for third in the ODAC in scoring for kickers. The junior connected on 8-of-11 field goal attempts, including a career-high 45 yarder. More impressively, he was the only kicker in the ODAC to connect on every single PAT going 43-for-43.
