Ikwild Named Player of the Year, 14 Earn All-ODAC
FOREST, VA-The Hampden-Sydney football team put 14 players on All-ODAC teams, including eight players on the First Team. Senior linebacker Trevor Ikwild (Philomont, VA/Loudoun Valley) also became the second consecutive Tiger to be named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Year while earning First Team honors. Joining Ikwild on the First Team defensively are senior defensive ends Ty Condrey (Chesterfield, VA/Manchester) and Will Riggenbach (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) and senior free safety Bill Doody (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Cardinal Gibbons). Earning First Team honors on the offensive side of the ball are junior quarterback Travis Lane (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin), junior wide receiver Kyle Vance (Onley, VA/Broadwater Academy), junior offensive lineman Ben Rogers (Mechanicsville, VA/Hanover) and junior place kicker David Prizzia (Jacksonville, FL/Episcopal).
Junior wide receiver Sean Cavanagh (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill), senior offensive lineman Clay Parker (Fishersville, VA/Wilson Memorial), senior safety Thomas McDonald (Chesterfield, VA/L.C. Bird) and sophomore weak safety Steven Fogleman (Mechanicsville, VA/Hanover) were named to the Second.
Senior tight end Andrew Bruckner (Chesterfield, VA/L.C. Bird) and senior defensive lineman Andrew Bailey (Hopewell, VA/Prince George) garnered Honorable Mention honors.
Ikwild posted an ODAC-best 133 tackles, 42 more stops than the next highest mark in the conference. His 12.1 tackles-per-game average currently ranks 12th in the nation. Ikwild also collected 10.0 tackles-for-loss (sixth in the ODAC), and proved adept in pass coverage with 10 passes defended (seventh) including three interceptions (10th). Ikwild registered double-figures in tackles in eight of 11 games played, including a season-high 19 stops (12 solo) in the Tigers' playoff game against Mountain State. The 19 stops were the most of any player in the 16 first round playoff games. Over his four years, the senior tallied 300 tackles.
Condrey had a breakout senior season leading the ODAC in tackles-for-loss with 14.0 on nine solo and ten assisted. He was also fourth in the league with five sacks. On the year he tallied 43 tackles on 22 solo and 21 assisted tackles. Condrey added one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
Riggenbach, the 2009 ODAC Defensive Player of the Year, had yet another solid season and was second in the ODAC in sacks, tallying 8.0 on seven solo and two assisted. His 12.5 tackles-for-loss were third in the league. he tallied 43 total tackles - 12.5 of which were for a loss of 54 yards. Of his 39 tackles, 22 were solo stops while 21 were assisted. In addition, he had one interception for a touchdown.
Doody, a D3Football.com Preseason All-American, led the ODAC in passes defended with 20. Of those 20, 15 were break ups while he had five interceptions (2nd in the ODAC). His 74 return yards on the five picks were a league high. He was also fourth on the team in tackles with 60 (41 solo, 19 assisted).
Lane stepped in as the Tigers' play caller smoothly, passing for 3,338 yards, 28 touchdowns and 18 interceptions on 272-of-420 accuracy (64.8%) in 11 games. Lane's 3,338 passing yards is the fourth highest single season total in school history. This season, he also scored three rushing touchdowns on 131 net rushing yards. The junior led the ODAC in passing yards (the second-highest passer was over 1,000 yards below Lane), touchdowns (28), completions (272), yards-per-game (303.5 ypg), and total offense (315.4 ypg).
Vance became just the third player in Hampden-Sydney history. His 1,135 receiving yards are the fourth best in school history. He ranked third in the conference in yards and fourth in receiving yards-per-game with 103.2. He hauled in 81 receptions (7.4 per-game) and led the team with seven touchdowns.
Rogers, a now three-time All-ODAC selection, has been a staple on the offensive line starting in all 32 games of his career. This season, he helped the Tigers average 413.1 yards-per-game while being one of the most feared offenses in the league.
Prizzia was solid all season as the Tigers' place kicker. He finished second on the team and in scoring with 67 points - which was also good for third in the ODAC in scoring for kickers. The junior connected on 8-of-11 field goal attempts, including a career-high 45 yarder. More impressively, he was the only kicker in the ODAC to connect on every single PAT going 43-for-43.
Second Team selection Sean Cavanagh provided an excellent one-two punch with Vance. The junior caught 63 passes for 992 yards and seven touchdowns. He had a career day in the playoffs with nine receptions for 160 yards. On the year, he went for over 100 yards in six games.
Parker has been a vital part to the Tigers offensive line starting at right guard. He was a part of one of the top offenses in the league, averaing 413.1 yards-per-game.
McDonald came on strong in his senior season, finishing fifth on the team in tackles with 47 on 22 solo and 25 assisted stops. He also added 9.5 tackles-for-loss, one sack, two pass break ups, an interception and fumble recovery. He was also named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week after the 24-17 win over Bridgewater.
Sophomore Steven Fogleman showed fans promise for the future as he tallied 91 tackles, which were second on the team and fourth in the ODAC. He also registered 8.0 tackles-for-loss, six pass break ups, an interception and a forced fumble.
Earning Honorable Mention accolades were Andrew Bruckner and Andrew Bailey. Despite missing the first two games due to injury, Bruckner became the Tigers third best receiver with 47 receptions for 489 yards and seven touchdowns. Bailey held down the middle of the defensive line with 25 tackles, 5.0 tackles-for-loss, 0.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery.
