Ikwild Named Player of the Week
FOREST, VA-Hampden-Sydney senior linebacker Trevor Ikwild (Philomont, VA/Loudoun Valley) was just named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in the Tigers' 31-28 win over Randolph-Macon College. The honor is Ikwild's first this season, and just the second for the team.
Ikwild led the Tigers for the ninth game with a game-high 12 tackles. His seven assisted stops were also a game-high. Ikwild helped hold Randolph-Macon's top-rated scoring offense in the ODAC (43.1 ppg going into the contest) to 28 points while making key stops to help the Tigers win.
Ikwild's play of the game, however, came in the third quarter when the Tigers were enjoying their first lead of the game at 21-14. The Jackets were making a drive to reclaim momentum, but Ikwild abruptly stopped the drive with an interception on the Hampden-Sydney 39-yard line. He then returned it 35 yards to the Randolph-Macon 26-yard line. With the field position, the Tigers were able to punch it into the end zone and make it a two-possession game.
After the regular season, Ikwild leads the ODAC with 114 tackles (11.4 per-game) on 62 solo and 52 assisted stops. He has also tallied 8.5 tackles-for-loss, seven pass break ups, two interceptions, one sack and a forced fumble.
Ikwild and the Tigers have at least one more game to play, as they host the Red Hawks of Montclair State University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship. Kick off is set for 12:00 pm.
