McDonald Named Defensive Player of the Week

FOREST, VA-After six weeks of play, senior strong safety Thomas McDonald (Chesterfield, VA/L.C. Bird) has been named Hampden-Sydney's first Player of the Week in 2010. McDonald earned the honors for his solid performance and game changing plays in the #20 Tigers' 24-17 win over Bridgewater College on Saturday.

McDonald made two of three big plays that helped lead to and secure Hampden-Sydney's come-from-behind victory at Bridgewater. Down 17-10 in the third quarter, an Eagles' snap from center went over the quarterback's head and bounded amongst players backwards for nearly 30 yards before McDonald pounced on it at the BC 12-yard line. One play later, the Tigers tied the game with a 12-yard touchdown run. Later in the game on Bridgewater's final drive, McDonald sacked the quarterback on third down, forcing a long fourth down attempt that failed and returned the ball to the Tigers, who promptly ran out the clock. For the game, McDonald recorded five tackles including a pair of TFL's and one sack, recovered a fumble, and recorded one pass defended.

McDonald and the Tigers return to action this Saturday, October 16, as they host the Wasps of Emory and Henry College. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
