HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Junior Andrew Kasiski/Chesapeake and sophomore Ryan Clawson/Moseley each had three RBIs to lead Hampden-Sydney College to an 11-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball victory past the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday at Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium.  Junior Chase Counts/Virginia Beach had four hits for the host Tigers (15-14-2, 9-7-1 ODAC) against the visiting Hornets (16-17, 9-8 ODAC), while senior Trey Celata/Chesapeake gained the pitching win in middle relief.

H-SC had 11 runs on 15 hits … scoring two runs in the first inning, five in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth and one run in the seventh.  The Tigers led 7-3 after two innings and never looked back while earning the two-game regular season sweep against Lynchburg.

In the first, junior captain Matthew Spagnolo/Glen Allen (2-2, 2 RBIs) provided an RBI single to score senior captain Tyler Blevins/Draper (2-3), who had singled, as well, and Kasiski (0-3, 3 RBIs) reached on a fielder's choice RBI to plate Counts (4-5, RBI), who singled.

In the decisive second, H-SC did its damage with two outs … getting a run-scoring double down the left field line from Counts to score freshman Mark Evans/Yorktown (2-4), who had singled, followed by a bases-loaded walk to Kasiski that scored Blevins, who had also walked.  Clawson (3-3, 3 RBIs) added a two-run single to plate both Counts and Spagnolo, who was intentionally walked, while senior Blake Hartman/Chester (1-5, RBI) contributed an RBI single to score Kasiski.

In the third, sophomore Mack Reese/LaGrange, Ga. (1-3, RBI) had a run-scoring single to score Evans, who had been hit by a pitch, and added a line drive sacrifice fly RBI to plate Reese.

In the fifth, Clawson added another RBI single to score Blevins, who had doubled, while in the seventh, Kasiski contributed a sac fly RBI to plate Counts, who had singled and stole second base, too.

Junior Jonathan Triesler/Chesterfield started and pitched the first 2.2 innings, yielding one hit and three runs, all earned, with five strikeouts and three walks.  Celata (2-0) tossed 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with one strikeout and no walks.  Junior Cameron Meyers/Benson, N.C. pitched a scoreless eighth inning, yielding one hit with one strikeout and one walk.  Junior Chase Mayberry/Appomattox retired the three batters he faced in the ninth, allowing no hits with one strikeout and no walks.

H-SC is scheduled to play a doubleheader at ODAC member ShenandoahUniversity on Saturday, April 20, at 12 p.m. in Winchester.
